MAC McANALLY IS THE MAN!
Jimmy says, "Whats up Parrotheads?!!! Hope everyone out there is doing well. Check this out. Our very own Mac McAnally donates single royalties to wounded troops. Mac is simply the man! Read below".
Wounded Warriors To Receive Proceeds From April 27 Release
(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) Newly signed Show Dog Nashville recording artist and
eminently respected music maker Mac McAnally has pledged to donate all his
artist royalties from his debut single "You First"
released on April 27 to the Wounded Warriors Project, whose mission is to
honor and empower wounded warriors. The commitment to helping wounded
soldiers fits well with the song's theme of brotherly love.
The single, which is available through all digital music retailers, is
prelude to a full album expected to be completed in June as McAnally works
recording into his touring schedule. A longtime member of Jimmy Buffett's
Coral Reefer band, Mac has been on the road much of this year.
Beyond his artist career, musician commitments and other musical endeavors,
McAnally is well known as one of the most successful songwriters of his era.
And to that end he will be performing May 1 and 2 in Key West at performing
rights organization ASCAP's annual songwriter's festival.
Of course, it was Mac who wrote the recent No. 1 hit "Down The Road"
for Kenny Chesney. And Chesney is so enamored of Mac's hugely successful
body of work he brought him into the studio to add his vocals to the song.
"Mac McAnally is the best kind of songwriter," Chesney said recently.
"With a couple chords and few lines, he opens up whole worlds...
worlds that are exactly where you came from, places you know by heart and
people who made you who you are today. It is so simple, yet nobody else can
take you to those places -- or make you feel so at home in the space of
three minutes. But that's why Mac is the songwriter everybody wishes they
could be."
And with the release of "You First" and the donation of its proceeds to
those in need, Mac McAnally has the chance to contribute even more than he
already has with music alone.

Buffett May Become Part Owner Of Dolphins
According to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, Jimmy Buffett might purchase a minority stake in the Miami Dolphins:
Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has called a 4 p.m. “informal meeting” with the media at which he is expected to announce subtle but important changes to the way the Dolphins do business with their fans and media, according to a source close to Ross.
Ross, who has been searching for investors to become minority owners in the team, may unveil some of the names of the people involved on that front.
The source said Thursday afternoon that Ross has been speaking to several people in the entertainment industry. Singer Jimmy Buffett, a Key West resident, and Miami Sound Machine founder Emilio Estefan are among the entertainment people Ross has discussed including in his ownership group.
It is not known if Ross has signed letters of intent or has closed the sale of minority portions of the team with Buffett or Estefan.
Congratulations to Mac McAnally!
Mac was honored as the CMA Musician of the Year on Wednesday, November 12th at the 2008 CMA Awards in Nashville, Tennessee. Since CMA award winners are chosen by votes from music industry peers who are members of the Country Music Association, this is a highly regarded award for a most deserving musician.
Also at the CMAs, George Strait and longtime producer Tony Brown shared the two awards — single of the year for "I Saw God Today" and album of the year for Troubadour — which were both recorded at Jimmy Buffett's own Shrimpboat Sound with Mac playing guitar.
Buffett Peforms in Anegada
Thanks to barefoot’n for passing this along: A friend of mine just got back from a sailing trip and said that Jimmy performed while his group was there. Anegada is sort of an out-island of the British Virgin Islands and relatively remote and unpopulated. Not that far from St. Barts, tho, and it does have an air landing strip.
Lawrence, the proprietor was under sworn secrecy not to tell anyone that Jimmy was going to be there, a deal that Lawrence had previously made with Jimmy. We understand that Jimmy drops by Anegada occasionally and this time it was timed perfectly for our arrival there. Jimmy Buffett serenaded them after dinner and did about ten songs, most of our favorites.
Cheeseburger in Paradise Closings
Two Cheeseburger in Paradise restaurants recently closed their doors. The restaurants located in Kalamazoo and Oklahoma City closed this week. CIP restaurants are ownd by OSI Restaurant Partners (parent company of Outback Steakhouse and some other chains).
“The closure is a prudent business decision for us at this time,” said Jerry Sullivan, joint venture partner in Cheeseburger in Paradise for Michigan, in a press statement Wednesday.
Tour Date Rumor Season Is Here
It’s that time of the year again when all Buffett fans try to reason with the tour dates season. The latest rumor has Jimmy Buffett playing shows in Camden NJ on Thursday June 18th and Saturday June 20th at the Susquehanna Bank Center (fomerly known as the Tweeter Center).
Two Hawaii Shows Planned for February
Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band will be playing two shows in Hawaii in February. One on February 24th in Maui, and one at Waikiki Beach Shell in Hononlu on Febrary 28th . Jimmy Performs in Cozumel
Jimmy Buffett played a surprise show at the Margaritaville in Cozumel along with Mac McAnally and Nadirah Shakoor on Tuesday January 6th, 2009. From Courtney: Cozumel was amazing and surreal. We had a blast. Here are some of the songs that Jimmy played: “Margaritaville”, “Cheeseburger in Paradise” (with people playing the different parts, see the photo), “Son of Son of a Sailor”, “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere”, “Changes In Latitude”, “Brown Eyed Girl”, “Volcano”, and “Mexico”. Nadirah also played a song from her album “Nod to the Storyteller”.
Parrothead Coach Wins National Championship
College football held its national championship game last night, the BCS Championship, between Florida and Oklahoma. Florida head coach and Parrothead Urban Meyer’s Gators came out on top with a 24-14 victory for their second national title in three years.
In November, Jimmy Buffett attended the Florida - South Carolina game in Gainesville and Coach Meyer invited Buffett into the locker room:
“Jimmy Buffett was in our locker room, he was,” Meyer said, almost giddy.
“In all seriousness, that’s a big deal,” said Meyer, whose favorite Buffett song is “It’s 5 O’clock Somewhere.”
Meyer met Buffett at Super Bowl XLI in Miami. It was raining and Meyer offered the singer a dark Gator jacket, which Buffett also wore to Saturday’s game.
“It’s great to be back in Gainesville seeing the Gators playing this well,” said Buffett, who had his son, Cameron, with him. “It’s been a long time. I like what Coach Meyer is doing here. This has just been a lot of fun tonight.”
Meyer’s love for Buffett runs deep:
”Urban doesn’t just like Jimmy Buffett, Urban wants to be Jimmy Buffett,” said Shelley Meyer, Urban’s wife.
“To Urban, Jimmy just has the greatest life because he gets to be laid-back. That’s Urban’s dream, just to be relaxed and have fun.”
